Black is a verb but only on earth

Dance performance and installation performed at YC Festival (HAUT), Copenhagen, Nov 2023
Length: 24 minuter
“What if I had blue eyes?”
“Blue eyes?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Yes.”
“Blues eyes.”
“Yes.”
- Score excerpt, Black is a verb but only on earth (2023)
A physical exploration of the racialised image and its meaning(s). Through improvisational movement practices the performer searches loaded imagery and vocabulary. Heavy, sincere and sometimes ironic, the images appear one after the other in the space.
The research work is an extension of the performance: horse 2, showed after a month long residency at Movement Research, New York, 2022. The stay was made possible by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.

OTHERS WORDS ABOUT THE WORK
”Black is a verb but only on Earth is a conglomerate of Black and queer imagery tying together multiple references, playing with tropes, making up new images, fluctuating between violence and humor, sincerity, and irony. It is a work that is concerned with movement and images, but also the importance of words: as tools for worldbuilding, as ways of framing history backwards, as materials for new histories, herstories, stories, poems, and homes.”
